The Worst President Ever? ……… Ever!
The self-described stable genius is anything but. He was, and is, the most unstable and insecure person of power I think I’ve ever seen, but maybe not as I read about some of the past presidents. I am finding that he may not even be the most ego-driven of Presidents ever. I discover that FDR issued over 3600 presidential executive orders. Does that indicate anything about his working relationship with Congress? The turmoil around the Biden-Trump election may not be the most tumultuous even. Many of us have sang praise of the play Hamilton which depicts a pretty rough time in our history. Or how about the John Quincey Adams backroom deal making party decisions from the House of Representatives that put him in office. Lincoln’s election tore this country apart and led to Civil War, and we all forget that even though Lincoln ended slavery, he was not for equal rights. In fact, he was quite outspoken against it. The doozy though, may be the Hayes’ election. Want to see where states vote were thrown out and votes were recounted in favor of someone, read about it and you’ll see why trump wanted it to go to the Supreme Court. My feelings about Trump are less founded on the politics surrounding him and more about the man himself. He is dangerous and that scared me.
I know the majority of my family doesn’t really like him, but there are some that do or at least what he represents. I think they like the chaos that ensued as a result of his style and that it left Washington DC standing on its ear. They don’t stand alone, there are plenty that fell into believing of the falsehood presidency and drank a gallon or two of the Trumpian Kool-aide. Texans seem to be the most devoted, which still amazes me. When I left the state, the state that I loved in the late eighties, it was still largely Democratic. Strangely enough though, just as Trump has divided the GOP down the middle, I feel the Democrats are gaining a foothold again in Texas and throughout the South due to the division. Just look at Georgia if you have any doubt. Amazingly, when you look around the yards some fifty days into the Biden presidency, you still see Trump signs. The sense of the GOP breakup is more something I feel than I know. When you divide the Republican numbers in half into a Republican Party and some Trump based fraction of the party, there just isn’t enough votes for either to have a legitimate chance of beating the Democrats.
The Trumpian followers just seem like mindless zombies, in fact, they may be what a real zombie apocalypse looks like, not the dead rising up, but instead the mindless rising up and doing what we saw at the Capital on January 6, 2021. What is left of the traditional Republican Party will be decent, moralistic, true conservatives, that we all know it to be, but the other faction is far from traditional Republican values. It will still be some time before the independents can put our trust in them again and cast our lean to the right instead of left. I look forward to the day that we get back to politics that means something. The coming together of differing opinions, only to compromise somewhere in the middle to satisfy all. The GOP isn’t the only party guilty of the great divide. The Illiberal smug left with the displaying of the self righteous I-KNOW-WHAT-IS-BEST-FOR-YOU attitude rubs many the wrong way too, me included. The Cancel Culturist and wherever they fit in are equally to blame for the backs-against-the-wall standoff happening. I certainly understand and support the “Black Lives Matter” and the “Me Too” movements, but I don’t support the cancelling and removing everything from our past that offends someone. Pretty soon we’ll look like the scenes from the movie “Logan’s Run” where everything is lily white and sterile. We know how that ends.
Ultimately, we always will have revolts of some nature against the way things are or have turned out to be. I think the Trumps of the world are a direct result of the impatient attitudes wanting things to return to some utopia life that probably never really existed and we certainly can’t return too. We will continue to see the sides divide further and further, we will also see more migrating to the middle in time, logically eliminating the far rights and lefts until another day when history has been forgotten and people live only in the moment of self pleasure and stimulation of a blissful country.
I understand the hatred for people like the Donald Trump’s, Chuck Schumer’s and Nancy Pelosi’s. I haven’t had any use for any of them most of my life, but I had to come across as standing by some of them in an effort to get someone removed from office or to push a policy by vote I could support or not.
Looking at the first three years of the Trump era were a reality check of what it looks like putting a person in office that has no business being in charge of the country, but it also seemed pretty harmless and laughable in the beginning as he couldn’t get his own party to back him enough to get any real legislation passed. One could contend that three years were wasted on a battle to catch him slipping up and such a huge waste and God knows how much money was wasted in the process? Now that we are in the middle of a pandemic, we have come to realize how dangerous he really was and by having someone ill-equipped being in charge. As a result of the ineptness, we have seen more than five hundred thousand die and it probably will approach a three-quarters of a million dead before its over. I don’t have the numbers, but I would guess it to be more than the eighteen years of war in the Middle East, Vietnam, and WWII put together. But again, we shouldn’t be surprised; we all knew he had no compassion nor empathy for anyone from his reality TV shows. Even after he has left office, he is still telling people that they should thank him for the vaccines, because without him, they would never have been on the market in the timeframe they were. Maybe, but probably not. In fact the bet is that the overall anxiety created throughout the country might have been lessoned by better actions and the focus on the vaccine wouldn’t have had the impact it will now have. A cultural war over wearing a mask, says a lot about the pettiness this country hangs its motivations on. It is pretty sickening if you ask me.
Trump managed to not screw up an economy which was thriving and moving upward to record territory before he took office. But, not for a lack of trying with the trade embargos and tariff fees assessed on all goods entering and leaving the country. The economy is the number one thing people respond with when I ask what has Trump really done for you and how has he improved your life? I have to correct most that had they invested the same under Obama, they would have made on average 5% more a year. I didn’t like Obama either, nor Bush II, and certainly not Clinton. But at least they acted like Presidents, well maybe that is a stretch for Clinton, but hey, he turned out to be a great ex-President. Again, something I don’t see Trump doing and I suspect he is never let into the Ex-Presidents Club. Besides, according to him, he is the legitimate President and that it was stolen from him.
The removal of the USA from the Paris Climate Accord and from the agreements with Iran have just about been irreversible in their damage. Add the trade disagreements, embargo’s, tariff’s, and just plain lack of sensibility in dealing with our foreign allies, we may never be able to heal or get this country on the right track again. Certainly, the trust for our country will always be in question. I am encouraged by some of the movement, but I’m also disappointed in some of the policies already executed by Biden. He has already bungled the border crossing issues in Texas. He isn’t the only one to blame as I think Governor Abbott holds a lot of responsibility too. This thing in Texas that no one, not even the Federal Government can tell us what to do. I, laughingly, have been thinking about this Mathew McConaughey running for Governor of Texas. As much as I would love to see Abbott and his cronies of extreme politics by party line be gone, I’m not sure I’m ready to give a fourth opportunity for a celebrity to be in a major office after Reagan, Schwarzenegger, and Trump. What I do find oddly interesting, knowing the left leaning Democratic nature of Hollywood, is that all the celebrities that have held office were Republican’s.
Getting back on track, the coronavirus handling and the lack of foresight into what the impacts would be are inexcusable. Trump had the scientists, health experts, economists, and all other experts around the world, and he disregarded all because he knows best!! It was more important for him to toot his own horn and demand recognition for his self assessed accomplishments. I always go back to the same old thought, if you have to tell me how smart or accomplished you are, I will always bet that you are neither and nowhere close to having any sense at all of that which you brag about. If you know it, you don’t shout it. If you don’t, you scream it every chance you get. Anyone that goes on national TV and suggests that maybe we should figure out how to ingest Clorox is an idiot on the highest level. Our now ex-President, seemed hell bent on destroying all we knew as normal. He doesn’t seem done and his henchmen are still spewing the craziness.
I prayed, under my breath, that God would weigh in on the elections and ensure that Joe Biden won. Not because I want Biden, because I didn’t, don’t, and will be watching critically with my future vote. We needed someone, this country needed someone, that could work to get this country back on the tracks. We seem to always be on the verge of derailment but I hope we can ride with some peace for a little while. I hope Biden has a good working relationship with our savior and maybe he will help bring back our hope for a future of success with decency and pride in this country. Time will tell, but for now, I’m enjoying not waking to find out what has happened from the toilet of the White House during the night.
