On the Eve Post Democracy
Are we? I’ve been wondering about it for quite a while. There was so much Biden could have accomplished over the last two years, but his desire for bi-partisan agreements stalemated important issues. The biggest, of course, should have been codifying Roe v. Wade. They still have two months and no effort is being made. Important gun legislation, solidifying social security and Medicare, protection of voting rights, and any number of important issues to the Democratic Party. Come Tuesday, we will find out if the Democrats retain at least the Senate. They have already conceded losing the House. If the republicans lose the Senate too, you can count on Biden and Harris both being impeached and removed from office, leaving the Speaker of the House to assume office. Temporarily, maybe, but certainly long enough to damage this country forever. Anyway you look at it, we may be on the eve of post democracy and the United States moving towards a fascist government.
There is even a scenario where Trump ends up being president again. It was too hard to follow, but if there is a way, they will move too it as fast as they can. Its the easiest way for him to avoid prosecution and in the end pardon himself or have an acting person pardon him prior to taking or seizing office again. Obviously, the two term president rule would be overturned with Trump staying in office until he just can’t. I even heard the other day that Marjorie Taylor Green is the most likely to be his vice president. How fucking scary is that?
If Democrat’s retain the Senate, then all we have to endure for the next two years is impeachment hearing after impeachment hearing and the Senate declining to provide any form of punishment. It will freeze our government for two years and might even cause a shut down more than once as the leverage of holding government employees pay hostage will be what the House does for fun. Their games will be a damaging process for us all.
It’s getting so old, this ineffectual political civil war. I heard the other day that there has not been one single law passed by congress and the president since Bill Clinton. I don’t know if that was fact-checked, but it wouldn’t surprise me. The last time we had a balance budget, in fact a surplus budget, was during Clinton’s time in office. But that is also when the tide started changing in the GOP and building to the current situation. It was with the removal of Newt Gingrich that the GOP starting moving towards its current level of fascism and its anti-socialism at all costs. But the leaders of the democrat party are equally guilty of ineffective governmental partisanship. They are just as bad at not voting across the aisle, never seeing a pathway that is not by their creation, and certainly have the media locked up to support their parties goals. When you think about it, what was left for the GOP to grab on too? The Supreme Court? That’s another thing Biden didn’t follow through on from campaign promises. He wanted to increase the number of justices on the Supreme Court with some kind of rotational seat of activity. I don’t remember his exact plan, but it did sound interesting.
At some point, I wish the Democrats would learn to play dirty in the trenches instead of the moral high-road of not responding to such lunacy the GOP continues to display. It just infuriates me to see Congressional leadership on the Democrat side, spout the moral responsibility of America and laugh at the GOP bull-rush that is coming at them like they believe there is no way possible the Democrat’s and Democracy could lose in America. I guarantee North Korea, Russia, and China are hoping for Trump to be in office. Only Trump believes he won the battle with China, since Biden took office, China GDP has been dropping, but put Trump back in with his tariff driven diplomacy and we will see the economic strength of China once again rise.
Two more days and we will have our future laid out for us. I don’t see any way that doesn’t seem crazy for the next two years. If the Republicans eventually take all three divisions of power in the government, the next thing I would expect to see are LGBTQ rights revoked. Taxes will rise even though they will look you in the face and tell you they are being cut and trickle down economics work. By the way, trickle down has never worked because it relies on businesses and corporate boards to put employees ahead of profits and we all know that is just never going to happen. On a good note, my 401K will benefit and grow.
