When Unbelievable Becomes Reality

I was just listening to the news this morning and am struck by the where this country has gotten. A country where elected congressional people have to have some charter of agreement that they are signing to say they will accept the results of the 2024 election. What? But guess what, after a week there is only thirty something of them that have actually agreed to sign it. This is their friggin job, but they are having to ensure to constituents that I will stand behind your vote and honor it. Of course, and even more unbelievable is the twenty-five percent that will only support it if their failed reality TV host is elected. Jen and I were recently visiting a cousin for dinner and drinks along with others from the neighborhood. Everything was going great, but as alcohol starts to flow, so do mouths and opinions. This is when it started feeling a little uncomfortable for Jen and I. Not because I can’t stand on my own, but because I failed to really defend my opinions and instead, we chose to make sure we didn’t want to offend our hosts.

We feel this far too often in living in Texas. It would never change my opinion or how I will vote. I did say one thing trying to be central in thoughts, but that was quickly attacked with a stupid response coming from some one of the conspiracy theories of those that just can’t believe their failed TV personality and horribly bad businessman could not have been elected with seventy-two million votes. In their minds, eighty-one million votes could only be achieved by illegal means as this persons response to my comment was how many of those people were dead. My comment, by the way, was it was remarkable to me that in the highest voter turnout ever, our president, senators, reps, local officials, referendums, bills, and everything else was based on less than one hundred fifty million Americans. That is less than half of the populace of this nation. In every election before that, there were more like one-third of voting. Yet, after the vote, we have two-thirds Americans complain about the results.  It is true, comments about lazy Americans. Instead of responding with something like, really? You feel there is no way this idiot could have lost. I on the other hand am flabbergasted that these so-called intelligent people can get so caught up in theories that support their disbeliefs and give them something to hang their thoughts on. Isn’t that a simple response? I’ll believe anything that supports my wanting notions of the way it should have been. These people can’t understand that they are not the normal, but again, they are the people who spend hours seeking out answers to support their thoughts instead of trying to find the truth of reality.

Then, as the gathering was breaking, this persons wife came around hugging everyone and as she was hugging me said into my ear that she loved me even those I was a liberal. WTF? I did pipe up and said there was only one liberal in my household, and it wasn’t me. The funny thing was that she immediately thought I was a republican. Too which I said I was a conservative and liberal, it’s called a Centrist. Blank stares as if I said some existential comment and it clearly is crazy. They feel they are conservatives, but they aren’t, they are MAGA, and any one with a brain knows MAGA and conservative are not then same. But it gets back to the notion that there is only us and them in this country and both major parties are guilty of that perpetuation, however they seem to understand that their party candidate will never get elected without seeking mine and like-minded folks to me for our vote. I’ve said this before, that if the independents could ever rally around a candidate that looked like us, that a Democrat or Republican would be sitting on the sideline wondering what just happened. It boils down to numbers, but it also boils down to cheating the systems to put odds in your favor. Meaning, the electoral college system was created to help Republicans balance chance. No Republican has won the popular vote since Ronald Reagan and that was still a narrow win. It is why voting comes down to a handful of states that decide the election every four years. Frankly, I would be good with the removal of the Electoral College system. Seems to me then it would require parties to really get out there and knock on doors seeking the backing and it would more insist these candidates to actually stand on policy and certainly never get away with grievance being design of support. But that might be the genius of the MAGA party base being mouth-breathers that feel they have never been able to get ahead and carry generational grievance at the forefront of their thought. The I’ve never gotten a fair shake; my parents couldn’t afford to send me to college even though I would never go to school because I don’t need it to do what I do; it’s stupid that you have to get a piece of paper to get ahead. These are the same people that vote for people that want to remove the very subsistence they rely on with their social security or Medicare. The same people that vote against the Head Start Education program although they live in the top twelve states that utilize the program to provide a quality education for their children and an actual balanced meal plan for free.  The same people that continually cut off their nose despite their face. I just don’t get the stupidity.

I don’t believe in the New Green Deal any more than I believe that we have a unlimited supply of petroleum products because people have all of sudden found it to be the new lazy thought that I don’t want to learn a new industry of renewable energy and resource. I instead believe we live on a planet that is one of an infinitesimal number of planets. Even in our own solar system, isn’t it acknowledgeable how limited resource is and that if we don’t find other ways and support the notion that we are capable of solutions to depleting resources that we will run out of the source of material we have grown accustomed to? Why in 2024 should we decide we no longer need to advance the worlds technology because it allows people to go back in time instead of embracing new ideas and methods of doing things? It just speaks volumes to how lazy Americans have become, especially those considered conservative. These are same people that never question anything because it is just easier to do things the way I always have.

I’m tired of holding my tongue. Not that I wasn’t to go beat my drum about how I believe this country should go forward, no I’m tired of holding my tongue about pointing out how stupid people are or can be. When Unbelievable becomes Reality, it is time to stop shaking our heads at the ideocracy of our fellow man. I am frustrated not just at how this country has decided the best ways to move forward are fringe values. When are the adults going to enter the room and set this all straight? It all starts with voting this November. I hope Trump is defeated by enough of a margin that it is unquestionable. And as we round the corner, the real conservatives speak to real plans, real policies, and ideas that bring this country together instead of insisting on some civil war approach of I’ll get what I want through force. Of course, they do this only because they get tongue tied and don’t know what else to do except hit back physically. It’s time to teach the stupid that they are and then set out to just tell them to shut up and do what they are told. Oh wait, that is exactly what the Republican party is trying to do, I can’t do that because that would make me stupid as well. I’m at a loss, I want to speak out, but I don’t want to have to defend myself. I’ll just vote for a sane candidate and one that has morals. That alone is pretty clear cut in my choices.
