United States of America… Not Hardly
Over the last eight to ten years, this country that I served for over thirty-seven years has become barely recognizable. We have an ex-president, secretary of state, and too many White House councils to mention that are all under indictment for numerous crimes. I think the latest I heard; Trump is charged with over ninety-one crimes in the four soon to be played out court proceedings. Yet, still over 50% of the Republicans are still backing him as their choice to run for president in the 2024 election. I know I’m not the only one at a loss to rationalize this. I have no problem understanding how Trump got to this point, after all he has been a con man most of his life. A failed game show host, a multiple bankrupt businessman, multiple divorced, womanizer, liar, and the most narcissistic person of all times. And also, the second coming of some divine hope for the future of the lost and misguided. One has to be truly at a loss for what to believe in if they can disavow all morality ever learned. The chaos that has ensued over the last 6 years has left all of us in an uneasiness that I have never felt before. I struggle to watch any news, but I’m also drawn to it like a moth to a flame. Every morning, the routine is the same, make coffee, toast a bagel, turn on Morning Joe, and do the daily sudoku. I listen to numerous ex-congressmen, reporters, columnists, presidential hopefuls, and some that are just like me, struggling to find words to describe how it all make me feel.
Even in my own family, there are lost souls blindly following the shameful poor excuse of a president. I remember how relieved I was when he lost the election, but two years later we still have to listen to the likes of James Comer, Jim Jorden, MTG, Lauren Boebert, and the most spineless speaker of the house to have ever lived. This idiots are hell bent on finding some link between the irresponsible son of the current president, Hunter Biden. It amazes me how many times they claim to have opened pandoras box, only never able to link anything other than a last name. I’m actually angered at these senseless so-called leaders wasting our tax money on nothing more than a tit for tat hope of something to impeach Biden on. If ever anything could justify term limits, it’s these morons. And for what, some hope that Trump will bless them with some kind of praise. They have wasted two years looking for some tidbit to run with and in the end, it will cost them re-election and more than likely the complete annihilation of the Republican Party.
With so many of Trump’s henchmen also indicted, we are starting to see many of them break ranks and try to save themselves from jailtime by cooperating with authorities. If it wasn’t so sad it would be laughable. Dad and I were laughing at some of the mugshots. Of course, there is Trumps, who, as it was reported, practiced for days for the look. It became evident why when, within twenty-four hours was plastered all over t-shirts and coffee mugs for sale to support Trumps legal fees which is now reported to be over fifty million dollars. The dopes of America duped into paying his legal fees, amazing. The morality of the nation is under attack, and we seemingly have no real pathway out of this spiral. It will be just as dysfunctional if the democrats had complete power. I used to think the only way to function in government was through checks and balances of control. I think that is an ideology long passed. I feel like we are on the edge of a democratic dynasty and God help us with the laws enacted that will surely rival any craziness we have experienced thus far. The liberal righteousness will be just as intolerable.
So, what then? The only hope would be for some sort of national reset. Old-time mainstream values with modern day social awareness might be the ticket. We don’t need a Green New Deal any more than we needed women to lose the right to control what happens to their bodies. We don’t need total bans on guns when a few targeted types would do fine. Dad and I were talking about red-flag laws. It is an easy concept to imagine, but one that has so many pitfalls in implementation. With the social movement over the last few years to make it honorable to decry your mental challenges and deficiencies, yet we want the ability to identify those with mental issues to ban them from gun ownership. Does it seem almost subversive? It does to me and I’m not really one to believe in conspiracies. The problem I see is that there are so many people now classified with mental issues that would never vote to lose the right to gun ownership if it was discovered. There are so many people that have scammed the system for benefits that they would never allow any such prohibitive law to come into existence. I some of my own family members that are clueless about gun ownership and seem to think it is okay to project their naivety of it on others. It is hard to explain why those of us that do love ownership find any real understandable reason for why we should be allowed to do so. I can only say, that when you grow up with them, are taught responsibility, proper use in hunting or sport, and understand the power of them, that we can do so and still expect a way to have both ways of life.
That is just one issue, and this country has hundreds of them that we are at odds with. Somehow these ideologies migrate to all of us politically. But take those divides and put us in a world of craziness we have today, and you realize that there is no way to come to any agreement of where to put a Band-Aid, much less tackling an issue like abortion, women’s health rights, mental state laws, and gun ownership. United States of America us to make all of us proud, now we have no idea what United even looks like. Over the last thirty years, the only time that we have ever been united has been when we have been attacked on our old values of what it meant to be an American and it has always been from some outside force like terrorism. I hate to feel hopeless for our future. I’m ashamed at our bravado without trying to understand our deficiencies in things like healthcare, education, or any of the other things we once led the world in. Today, all we lead the world in is incarcerations, belief in extraterrestrials, and the number of guns manufactured and owned. Sad! United, not hardly, but cold we be? I still hold on to the hope of a better time for this country. I love this country; I love our freedoms even though there are over 140 countries that are also free. I even love the rebellious nature at times, but only when it unites us. I long for peace, sanity, values, and morality to return to the forefront of our existence. I hope!
I for one welcome our alien overlords, for then we shall finally be united.
